Refill Foaming Spray Cleaner Yourself: Dish Soap, a Splash of Alcohol, Warm Water

The Problem

Foaming dish sprays (Dawn Powerwash being the one on everyone's counter) earn their spot — spray, wipe, done — but the refill bottles cost nearly as much as the original, forever, for what is mostly water and a delivery trick. The delivery trick is the sprayer, and you already own it.

The Technique

1. Keep the empty spray bottle.
2. Fill it about one-third with the same dish soap you already buy.
3. Add a splash of rubbing alcohol — a little more than a splash is fine. The alcohol thins the mix so it sprays clean and helps it flash off the surface.
4. Fill the rest with warm water, cap it, and shake gently to blend.
5. Spray: same foam, same grease-cutting, at pennies per bottle.
