The Problem
Foaming dish sprays (Dawn Powerwash being the one on everyone's counter) earn their spot — spray, wipe, done — but the refill bottles cost nearly as much as the original, forever, for what is mostly water and a delivery trick. The delivery trick is the sprayer, and you already own it.
The Technique
- Keep the empty spray bottle.
- Fill it about one-third with the same dish soap you already buy.
- Add a splash of rubbing alcohol — a little more than a splash is fine. The alcohol thins the mix so it sprays clean and helps it flash off the surface.
- Fill the rest with warm water, cap it, and shake gently to blend.
- Spray: same foam, same grease-cutting, at pennies per bottle.
Pro tip: Shake before use if it sits a while, and mix with warm — not hot — water so the soap blends without turning the bottle into a foam column.
