Build a Flush Deck Box Beam
Straightening bowed or wavy lumber in a deck box beam by levering low spots up and tapping high spots down before locking each section flush.
Butyl joist tape's backing paper tangles into a sticky mess as you unroll. Fold the backing around so it adheres to the non-sticky back of the tape, get the first stretch stuck to the timber, then pull — the backing peels itself onto the roll and you lay tape like it never had a liner.
deck flashing tape hard to apply, release liner won't come off, install butyl tape on deck frame, peel and stick tape sticking to itself
Joist tape — and any butyl tape with a release liner — fights you on the roll. The backing paper doesn't want to separate where you want it to, comes loose where you don't, and within three joists you're managing a growing streamer of sticky-backed paper flapping in the wind instead of laying tape.
