Stop a Cabinet Door Slamming Into the Wall With a Hinge Restrictor Clip

The Problem

Concealed cabinet hinges open well past 90 degrees. Put that cabinet at the end of a run, next to a wall, or beside a taller unit, and every full swing bangs the door edge into something — denting the wall and eventually working the hinge screws loose.

The Technique

Hinge makers sell a small plastic part for exactly this: an angle restrictor clip that limits how far the hinge can open. The one in the video stops the door at 86 degrees.

1. Buy clips matched to your hinges — restrictor clips are specific to the hinge maker and series, so identify the brand stamped on the hinge cup first.
2. Take the hinge off the cabinet. The clip seats into a slot in the hinge body that you can't reach with the hinge mounted.
3. Drop the clip into its recess. It's a tiny part in a tight spot — the creator jokes his fingers were too big and a kid would do it faster.
4. Remount the hinge. The door now stops short of whatever it was hitting.
