Give Board-and-Batten Siding a Sacrificial Water Table Board
A horizontal skirt board at the base of the wall takes the splash and end-grain wicking that would otherwise rot the siding — and because it's a separate sacrificial piece, replacing it decades later costs one board, not a wall.
