Free a Stuck Shower Cartridge
Using a rubber drain-pipe coupling as a full-surface grip to turn out a seized shower cartridge that a wrench can't budge.
Wrap thin copper wire around the screw's threads, warm the screw briefly, and drive it back into the stripped plastic hole — the softened plastic reforms around the wire-wrapped threads and the screw bites again.
screw won't tighten, screw hole too big, screw just keeps turning
Screws that thread directly into plastic — appliance housings, vacuum parts, power-tool casings, toys — strip easily. One over-tightening and the plastic threads shear, the screw spins in place, and the part hangs loose. A plastic boss can't be re-tapped the way metal can, and the usual outcome is replacing a part that's otherwise fine.
Thin bare copper wire (a strand from lamp cord or any scrap wire), a lighter or other small flame, a screwdriver, and pliers to hold the screw while heating it.
