Sheathing Strength Axis
Why a structural sheet's long dimension has to run across the rafters or joists it spans, and what happens to the deck when it doesn't.
Technique: Nail by Plywood Mill Lines
A wandering nail row on sheathing means misses — fasteners that skip the stud or joist below and hold nothing. Snapping a chalk line for every row fixes it, but on a full sheathing job that's a lot of snapping.
The line does the job of a chalk line that's already printed on the sheet — you're only borrowing it once your row is registered on the framing at both ends.
