Tie a Hanging Storage Knot: Slip Knot, Then a Reverse Loop Over It

The Problem

Coiled cordage needs a way to stay coiled and a way to hang — and most improvised solutions do one or the other: a tucked end that unravels off the hook, or a tight wrap you have to fight open in the field.

The Technique

The move sequence, best watched in the source clip and easy to repeat once seen:

1. Coil your rope and make a loop with the working end.
2. Tie a slip knot around the bundle and tighten it — that's the keeper holding the coil closed.
3. Form a second, reverse loop and drop it over the bundle.
4. Dress it down: the result is a closed coil with a standing hanging loop on top. Hook it over a nail, a branch, a pack strap — anywhere.

To deploy: lift it off, undo the reverse loop, and pull the slip knot — the coil falls open ready to use, no picking.
