Outlet Nut Spacer
Threading a nut onto the mounting screw as a spacer to snug up a loose or recessed outlet.
Turn a spare wall plate into an alignment template: mark the center of each mounting slot on the back, drill those points out to half an inch, and you can level and tighten every device through the template — no more on-off-on-off fitting.
crooked light switches, cover plate won't sit flat, outlets not straight, switch cover alignment
Two-, three-, and four-gang wall plates are unforgiving: every switch and outlet behind them has to sit at exactly the same height and angle or the plate won't seat flat, the screws land crooked, and the whole assembly looks off. The usual method is trial and error — fit the plate, spot the misalignment, take it off, nudge a device, put it back — over and over for every gang box in the house.
Sacrifice one wall plate to make a reusable alignment template.
The half-inch holes are the whole trick — big enough for a screwdriver to work through, small enough that the template still registers every device exactly where the real plate will hold it.
