The Fork Trick for Hanging Heavy Art
Hanging forks on the nails so a mirror's wire has a wide target to catch, then sliding them out.
D-rings mounted in the middle of a frame can't be seen or felt once the picture is against the wall. Loop a string round the screw, run both ends through the D-ring, and use it as a guide rail that pulls the ring onto the screw — then whip the string out.
picture won't catch the nail, hang artwork blind, frame keeps missing the hook, line up picture hooks behind the frame
D-rings screwed to the back of a frame hang flat against the wall when there's no tension on them. Hooking one over a screw means holding the picture up, tilting it out from the wall, and finding a ring you can't see by feel alone.
It gets worse the further the rings sit from the edge of the frame. Rings mounted well in from the sides put your hands nowhere near them, and the ring drops flat every time the frame touches the wall.
A length of string turns an invisible target into something you can pull toward.
