Use a thin rod — like a dipstick, screwdriver, or dowel — as a guide rail. Pour the liquid against the rod and surface tension will carry it straight down into the hole.
makeshift funnel, funnel substitute, diy funnel hack, fill a small opening without making a mess
You need to pour a liquid — engine oil, windshield washer fluid, coolant, or even water — into a small opening, and you don't have a funnel. Pouring freehand usually means spilling half of it down the side.
The liquid follows the rod because of surface tension — it's the same principle that makes water run down the side of a glass when you pour too slowly. Here you're using that tendency on purpose.
