Guarding dentable trim with your thumb while starting a nail — the thumb heals, the vinyl doesn't.
The rounded head is the trick: grab a nail or staple low and roll the tool sideways, and it walks the fastener out without enlarging the hole or crushing the surface. And when a finish nail won't come, nip it off and drive it in.
