Flooring Transition Joints
Clean seams where two different floor materials meet.
Shoot a laser line a set distance off the wall, zero a depth gauge on the farthest-out stud, then measure every stud against that reference and shim each one to match. The tile substrate goes up dead flat, plumb, and square.
wavy wall before tiling, tile edges not lining up, prep shower walls for big tiles, fix bowed studs before backer board, uneven tiles on wall
Large-format tile shows every hump in the wall behind it — lippage between tiles is usually a framing problem, not a tiling problem. Studs bow, plates wander, and a backer board screwed straight to them copies every flaw. Flat tile needs a flat substrate, and "flat" has to be measured against something truer than the framing.
