Frame a Door Opening
Header, jacks, kings, and cripples — and the door-plus-two math that sizes the rough opening.
A 3-1/2-inch stub wall beside the shower carries the tile and the door glass — locate it with a laser up to the trusses, keep 15 inches minimum (18 is the gold standard) beside the toilet, and build vertical channels of blocking past the shower pan so the glass-door hardware has wood to bite.
half wall next to shower, shower glass panel blocking, toilet clearance code 15 inches, pony wall tile shower, anchor wall to concrete floor, knee wall wobbles
The short wall beside a shower does three jobs at once — carries tile, closes the toilet alcove, and anchors the glass door — and each job has a requirement: code clearance off the toilet, a dead-plumb line to the structure above, and solid wood exactly where the door hardware lands. Frame it as an afterthought and the glass installer finds drywall where screws need to be.
