Brace a Gate Frame in Compression — From the Top Outside Corner Down to the Hinge
Trace the diagonal by laying the brace stock under the assembled frame, cut it with a circular saw, and install it running from the top outside corner down to the bottom hinge-side corner — so the gate's weight travels through the brace, into the hinge, and into the post.
