One stud bowed out of plane will telegraph through the drywall as a bump. An angled relief cut releases the bow so you can push the stud flush — then a structural screw or a scabbed 2x4 locks it straight.
Pick out the damaged spot, snug the popped screw back down without over-sinking it, dish the edges into the divot with the back of a putty knife, then spackle, sand, and prime before painting.
